Gavi is a DOCG region in Piedmont, Italy and its wines are made from the white Cortese grape. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this wine. It's medium bodied, quite fruity (citrus and pear comes to mind) and possesses surprisingly good length. Decent acidity makes it food friendly, but its light enough to have on its own as well. A bargain right now at around £5, but still well worth the regular price of £7.
A good wine to try if you are tired of all the other popular white grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc - you won't be disappointed with this choice.
