Piccini Chianti Riserva Selezione Oro 2004

Is it just me, or do most supermarket Chiantis disappoint? I usually find them quite difficult to drink. OK, food helps, and you are not going to experience all the potential of Sangiovese by bottom-feeding from supermarket shelves.

This one, frequently on sale at Tesco, is a bit easier. Perhaps a bit lighter with a nice cherry fruit drinkability. For once I don't feel like tipping the remainder of the glass down the sink after I've finished eating, and would be glad to finish the bottle when all the food's gone.

  1. Never liked Chianti - probably becuase supermarket ones are rubbish. I look forward to trying this one.

  2. I have tried many many supermarket wines and they mostly dissapoint. Even good wines suffer from long spells on shelves in high temps under strong lights etc etc etc. This was rich, creamy, loaded with fruit plus a long finish - 'Wine 2007 Silver in class' was believable for once - it is one of the best so far - do not neglect my recommendation - I think it is an absolute bargain when it is on offer.

    Cheers
