E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2005

An enjoyable Cotes du Rhone is a bit of a result for me. I usually have better results with the more selective appellation Cotes du Rhone Villages. Either way, here exists a CdR that is pretty decent indeed.

The Guigal estate is one of the most famous of the Rhone, and it's easy to see why with this delightful offering. Rich, complex and savoury, it's nothing like the raspberry-water of some of the other, inferior CdR wines I've had recently. Made mostly of Syrah and Grenache, it apparently has an aging potential of 8 years, according to Guigal's website.

This is simply miles better than anything else from the Rhone that I've tried at this price, especially at the current offer price of £5.99.
