Ridgeview Cuveé Merret Bloomsbury 2007

Ridgeview is supposedly one of the finest sparkling wine producers in England. They do well in blind tastings, and their best wines are said to be on the same level as fine champagne.

I decided to try a bottle to see what all the fuss is about. It's definitely a quality wine. Chardonnay dominance gives it a crisp elegance, although it does have a pronounced tartness (something not uncommon in English wines). I liked it though, and even a fussy friend of ours approved wholeheartedly.

The only downside is the cost, which is disappointing. Producers here have every right to charge as much as those in Champagne, but you'd think local produce would save you a few quid.
