Chianti Classico for £4.90? Ridiculous. I wouldn't say it's the best Chianti I've ever had, but it's definitely good. If it wasn't for the fact that we just finished 2 1/2 cases of Piccini Chianti I would load up on this. I fancy a change though, maybe some Barbera...

Thanks for that - a big Sainsbury's is a shortish walk from us but I rarely go there. Looks like I should (and they do some interesting bottled beers too sometimes).
ReplyDeleteJust drinking my way through another Chilean my wife picked up at M&S (yes, a wine, boom boom) that's not bad and certainly more gutsy than the Isla Negra:

And in a race to the bottom, when she went to Asda at the weekend I texted her with some recs but the only one she came back with was this £3 Spanish stunner (I'd say a 2.5) - it's been a long time since I've had a drinkable bottle at that price in the UK:

Sorry that that last link was supposed to be for Sola Vina Tinto, also noted at:

but £2 less now.
Hi Marc,
ReplyDeleteI was just going to mention that link didn't seem quite right...but thanks you've fixed it.
The Sainsbury's offer is excellent - I'm going to have to exercise some self-restraint. There are loads I haven't actually tried (Barolo, Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, Douro, some Burgundy, etc). These prices are crazy - the Muscadet at £3.99 is the bargain of the year - if you like it....I did: http://timswineblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/sainsburys-taste-difference-muscadet-de.html

Marc - also meant to say I don't get to Asda much (the closet one is Clapham Junction and I'm in Balham) but I was impressed by one or two of their Extra Special range...I think the Aussie Riesling was really good. You're more of a red guy though aren't you?
ReplyDeleteI went into Sainsburys Nine Elms at 9am this morning to pick some up and was told the 1/3 off Taste The Difference offer was now finished on all but 3 of the wines (the Vouvray, the Pinot Grigio and one other white). Blast.
ReplyDeleteHi Shrimp,
ReplyDeleteyeah I went in again tonight, and all I got was the Pinot Grigio (I know, but I've had it before and it's pretty good), and the Haut Cotes de Nuits. The Burgundy was a fiasco, as the shelf said it was still on offer but the till disagreed, and a bit of hassle then ensued with the customer service staff (who tried to insist it wast the Beaujolais Villages that I wanted for some odd reason). Anyway, yes too bad it ended so quickly...I'm wondering if they just sold out, as most of them aren't even for sale at all online...
